The Multicultural Work Group

                Vision Statement and Service Philosophy

The vision of this group is guided by the “Core Values and Principles of Wraparound under the umbrella of the WRAP CT, Learning Collaborative. Our mission is “To develop a network of supports to empower, validate, and equip bilingual/multicultural staff to provide individualized care”.  Bilingual Wraparound facilitators empower non-English speaking families by providing some advocacy and education in their native language in regards to their rights and school issues.  Members of this group posses many strengths including their ability to be quick thinkers and their cultural and system knowledge.  Many of them can relate to the challenges faced by immigrant families, understanding these families tend to be more private and reserved about their needs.  As a group we follow a family orientated approach and explore ways to help families build trust and increase their network of natural and informal supports.

Purpose of the Multicultural Group

  • Conduct census of bilingual/multicultural staff
  • Define best practice standards in working with non-English families
  • Conduct bilingual wraparound trainings in other communities
  • Create more awareness of resources available and how to access them
  • Coordinate trainings in educational law/policy for families
  • Provide more training on cultural awareness (on any culture)
